Every movie, TV episode, and live event I saw in 2017

For the second year in a row, I kept track of everything I watched.

Why? Because I felt like it.

This year, I watched 429 episodes of TV (up from 317 in 2016) and saw 55 movies (down from 80 in 2016). Continue reading

Ranked: Every 2016 film I saw ranked worst to best

2016 gave us a bunch of mediocre films, and a handful of great films. While I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to compare the two, TV knocked Film out of the park in 2016. With that being said, there really are a few films that I truly loved from this past year. Continue reading

Ranked: The Best TV Shows of 2016 (that I actually watched)

My love for “television” started on September 22, 2004.

That’s the day that Lost premiered on ABC, and it completely changed how I watched TV. In all of those years since I started taking TV seriously, 2016 is, without question, the best year of TV watching I have experienced.

Everything was just so damn good this year, and while I was only able to give my full attention to a handful of shows out of the 400+ scripted series currently airing, I’m very happy with what I saw. Continue reading

Every movie, TV episode, and live event I saw in 2016

I did something different in 2016 – I decided to keep track of everything I watched.

Why? Who knows.

Since January 1st, 2016, I wrote down every movie, episode of television, and live event I watched in the Notes app on my iPhone.

If my count is correct, I watched 80 movies and 317 episodes of TV in 2016.

2016: The top-10 best podcasts of the year

I can go on and on about how 2016 has been a defining year for television, but in some ways, I think 2016 has also been a defining year for podcasts. Fueled by the stranger-than-fiction presidential election, podcasts became more than just a source of entertainment, they became a constant and fully-realized source of news and news analysis. And with the election of Donald Trump, I don’t think news podcasts are going away anytime soon.

It seems that everyone listens to a podcast or two or many now, which makes sense considering there is literally a podcast for every interest. I listen to a number of them on a daily basis that range from topics as broad as “politics” to as specific as a deep dive into the show “Mr. Robot”.

Out of the many shows I listened to this year, a few stood out above the rest.

Here are my favorite podcasts of 2016: Continue reading

Track by Track Review: “Reflektor” – Arcade Fire

It’s been nearly three years since the release of “Reflektor”, Arcade Fire’s fourth album. Everything leading up to the album’s release was incredibly exciting if you were even a casual Arcade Fire fan. I remember some of the things that stand out that propelled my excitement for the album at the time:

My favorite pop culture things (so far) in 2016

2016 hasn’t been that great.

I could go on and on about Donald Trump, or Orlando, or Brexit to explain why, but I think most people get it.

Pop culture has become more than something I like. It’s becoming, more and more, something I find comfort in.

And luckily, pop culture hasn’t disappointed this year. In fact, so far, things have been pretty good, especially on the TV front. Continue reading

2015 in Review: The Best of Television

As of today, I’ve watched 14 television shows this year.

Not enormously impressive, I know, but I was impressed in what I saw this year.

Some shows, like Better Call Saul, surprised me in how good they were.

Others, like True Detective, are examples of high hopes shattered into billions of pieces.

I think the best way to to commemorate my thoughts on the year in television is to rank what I have seen, and then talk about what some of my favorite TV things were in 2015.

So, without further ado… Continue reading
