2016 gave us a bunch of mediocre films, and a handful of great films. While I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to compare the two, TV knocked Film out of the park in 2016. With that being said, there really are a few films that I truly loved from this past year. Continue reading
I did something different in 2016 – I decided to keep track of everything I watched.
Why? Who knows.
Since January 1st, 2016, I wrote down every movie, episode of television, and live event I watched in the Notes app on my iPhone.
If my count is correct, I watched 80 movies and 317 episodes of TV in 2016.

The Oscar season has taken the form of a lot of different narratives so far this year. First, Foxcatcher was supposed to win everything and Channing Tatum and Steve Carrell were both going to be nominated for Best Actor. Then Boyhood was released and shut everyone up. Then Birdman. And then Selma came out of nowhere with a ton of momentum. And then Unbroken and Into the Woods were dropped on Christmas, and left many unimpressed. And then American Sniper took its sweet time being released, and will probably suffer because of it. Continue reading
