2015 in Review: My favorite stuff of the year

Another year has come and gone, and what a year it’s been, blah, blah, blah.

Okay, I’m going to skip all the formalities and just get to it.

The following was my favorite pop culture stuff from the year 2015.

Star Wars

The new movie was great. It was everything we could have hoped for.

Ben Mendelsohn in Bloodline

I wouldn’t consider Bloodline to be the greatest show out there, but holy crap did Mendelsohn act the hell out of it. His performance is one of the best I’ve ever seen, and he makes it look so easy. Mark my words – he’ll have an Oscar within the next five years. And he’s in Star Wars: Rogue One, which comes out in December 2016!

On the Media

As someone who works in the news media, this show is my Bible. I consider it required listening for anyone going into journalism, broadcasting, etc.

Oscar Issac

Ex Machina. Show Me a Hero. Star Wars. This guy is not slowing down.

The last scene of Mad Men

Every time a series nails the ending, an angel gets its wings. 100 angels got their wings in the last minute of the Mad Men series finale.

I laughed a bunch during this movie. It’s great.

The production design of Crimson Peak

The real star of Crimson Peak is production designer Thomas E Sanders. While the movie wasn’t perfect, it’s worth seeing if only for the beauty that it is. The movie is just incredible to look at.

If you haven’t started watching this show yet, please do. I need more people I can talk about it with. Also, it’s really good. Like, one-of-the-best-shows-I’ve-ever-seen-good.

12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer

Trainwreck was great, but this episode of Inside Amy Schumer was my favorite thing she’s done this year.

Documentary Now!

Bill Hader and Fred Armisen’s series of parodies of classic documentaries seemed to have come out of nowhere. It all seemed so random – it even stars Helen Mirren! But it’s so well executed and so funny and so well acted. You don’t even need to have seen the original documentaries the episodes are based on to appreciate the gem that this is.
